Summer in Buckman – Typical SE Portland Evening

Summer is winding down to a close! I’d thought I’d share a few photos from the neighborhood in an attempt to immortalize the beauty of summertime.
This was a particularly rough Portland summer for me.
It was waaaay too hot and zapped me of all will to do anything except take cold baths, sit in the shade and eat cucumbers. Normally it wouldn’t be quite so bothersome since I am a card-carrying member of the Cold Hands Warm Hearts club, meaning I tend to run cold and thrive in the heat. But I am pregnant this summer, and one of the lovely things that happens during pregnancy is a raise in resting body temperature.

This set of photos was from June, when the heat hadn’t yet begun. People are wearing layers, plants are lush and green, and the sky was overcast with a protective layer of clouds. A couple of weeks later, the heat was full on for about 8 weeks straight. I kept my blackout curtains on my west and south facing windows for 8 weeks, while the last two summers I used them for about 2 weeks.
Yes, it was hard but it was still a wonderful summer. As always, I am not quite ready for it to end…although the cool evenings are divine for sleeping!

  1. Congratulations on your pregnancy! Such wonderful news. Also – I love Bamboo Sushi! I always get the Green Monster when I visit :) I was ready for fall but was not ready for summer to end – as strange as that may sound. Basically I’m just not ready for winter. I’m still recovering from all the polar vortex days we had last winter.
