Harvesting Rosehips at Rocky Butte

Three weeks of post-graduation life, and I couldn’t be more pleased with life right now. I have been able to discover Portland in brand new ways, going to new places, meeting new people, and doing those things I used to love so much but could never as much as I wanted while in school, like harvesting herbs.

Rob and I have been here for three years as of Sept 12th. I almost can’t believe it! Portland feels like home to me, and I love it more each and every day. I moved here 3 days before school started then was immersed in school the entire time. Needless to say, I didn’t explore Portland the way I would’ve liked. But now I can do just that! Preserving Summer with Homemade Fragrant Rose Elixir

This summer I grew a variety of roses called Grand Dame, which I chose because of its old fashioned rose fragrance, and all of it’s bright pink petals were either used as tea or made into an elixir. Rose elixir is one of my most favorite herbal extracts. An elixir is an herbal extract, using half alcohol and half sweetener. Chamomile with a Side Of Rose – Garden to Arrangements to a Cup of Tea

You could say I am a bit obsessed with both chamomile and roses, especially since moving to Portland.

Chamomile grows quite well in my garden with the mild springs and moisture. I planted one tiny plot three years ago and it self-seeded all over the place. And for roses, well, Portland isn’t called the city of roses for nothing. Read the rest of this entry »
