Found: Terrarium Kit from Artemisia

IMG_3544

Can you believe someone put a terrarium kit from Artemisia to the curb?!

And that I walked by it on the right time on the right day to bring it home? Actually, I can believe that I found it, given my track record.

Found: Local Morels and Shiitakes

shitake
From the St. John’s Farmer’s Market: plump, fresh, bountiful mushrooms. Nice and earthy.

The morels were divine sauteed with olive oil, garlic and a little bit of thyme.

Need I say more?

Project Found: Home-Grown Goodness of Late Spring Bounty

3/30.  In 2013, once a week, I highlight what I have found and that which has found me.

Project Found this week is fresh from the garden! The weather has just recently morphed into the hot-hot (at least for Portland) dryness which dominates July and August in the last day and a half. Greens and herbs have bolted and gone to seed, and today we picked the last few stragglers in the strawberry patch.

Before I move on to the next planting phase of my gardens, I need to say thanks and goodbye to the produce we have had thus far. Is this what it is like when your kids go off to Kindergarten? Sad and sappy and exciting all at the same time, with the nagging, unreal feeling of time moving too quickly?

Radishes. Peas. And lots and lots of strawberries. Just a few of the delicious fruits and veggies that have come our way so far this season. Some are from our garden, some are from the farmers market, and all were divine.

What good things are in season where you are?

But containment is essential for life to grow and flourish, as it creates the boundaries for creativity to thrive. Like a hands holding a draft of water, a bowl holding warm food, the earth holing roots in place, sometimes the roots hold the earth in place. Read the rest of this entry »

I love reading about a blogger’s recent finds from around the web and from local shops. It gives us an opportunity to look through eye of the blogger; what items, styles, sentiments capture their attention at this moment in time? This is my version of a “weekly finds” post. As you will see it has a slightly different flavor.

I find beautiful things around me all the time. Sometimes I go looking, but most seem to pop into my view and scream “take me home!”. Somethings I find are cast-offs on the sidewalk, some are from local shops or estate sales, some are from gardens and some are from within. Each year I believe less and less in coincidence; I think most things have a deeper meaning attached, a part of me waiting to be discovered.
